CHAPTER TWO

LYDIA

Over the next thirty minutes, Lucas helps me open the shop and talks about what I would need to rewire the entire building. Thank God we had started planning for this years ago, or the amount would have sent me screaming. And if I am being honest, it’s even cheaper than I anticipate since Gran already had an estimate done years ago. Lucas is probably cutting down the price.

Lucas.

I like him. Well, that is an understatement given the way my body goes into sexual frenzy whenever I’m around him.

There’s just something about him that I find alluring. Maybe it is that sharp jaw, or his kind warm eyes, or this toned muscles, or that raw sexuality that oozes off him. I don’t know why, but I find him quite irresistible. It takes all of my willpower not to pull him into a hug or daydream about how his lips will taste on mine. He looks like such a good kisser.

I shake my head, trying to ignore the thoughts going through my head. Whoo!

I cannot believe I am having these thoughts about a man I just met. But Lucas… he ticks every box. From the way he helped me get my cupcakes and even the generator he offered to give me so I could have power for the next few days while he fixed my wires – it all felt like fate.

My grandma always said something about coincidences. That the universe had a way of setting up circumstances to bring two people together. And I had never felt this way about anyone.

Never.

Too much of a romantic. Growing up with my grandmother who married her soul mate definitely has a way of filling your head with roses and flowers. It was not that I was being naïve, it’s just that after seeing the consequences of my brother’s recklessness, I knew I had to be smarter than that. So I promised myself not to get into any sexual relationship lightly. And for the first time in my twenty-four years, I finally felt ready to test the waters. And if the vibe I am getting from Lucas is any indication, I can’t help thinking he would readily agree.

But I have to be smart. I knew he would probably not want anything to do with me while he is still working on the house. He looks like one of those people who does not mix business with pleasure. So, I decide I will try to drop subtle hints so when this ended, maybe he will ask me out on a date, or maybe I’ll just ask him out.

I giggle a bit as I make some coffee. This morning started out as a disaster. Now, everything was looking up.

My part-time assistant should be here soon. Hannah was an Anthropology grad student and also a good friend. She just moved to town for grad school and, she frequently helps me out in the shop every afternoon. This is a supplementary way for her to make money, and it works out quite well for me each time I have to attend auctions to clients or buy antiques.
